The Portland Timbers are coming home. The Black and Gold are here to ruin the party. The Timbers have played a record setting 12 away matches to get here. The whistle blew and there was the first kick at new Providence Park.
GOAL | Carlos Vela takes the ball of a cross and dribbles in front of Timbers keeper Jeff Antinela. He then slots it into the back of the net, giving LAFC a 1-0 lead. For the first half, the match was pretty much back and forth, but LAFC had the lead from Velas goal.
GOAL | With a weird cross come great responsibilities, or however it goes. Diego Rossi got on the ball and put it in the back of the net. Going into the second half, LAFC was up 2-0.
The Timbers would not be denied in the home opener, as they got one back off a rebound Tyler Muller could do nothing about. Also, the Timbers fans have started booing every time Carlos Vela touches the ball.
GOAL | The Starman, Latif Blessing, slots the ball into the back of the net, giving LAFC a 3-1, two goal lead. LAFC Midfielder Carlos Vela has been a target of the Timbers. It seems he has been fouled 100 times. But he gets up every time. Good sign for the Black and Gold.
The Timbers will not go quietly, having had plenty of chances and shots in these last 20 minutes. 85 minutes in, the Portland Timbers bicycle kicked one into the back of the net. 3-2 with 5 minutes left. In these last 15 minutes (8 added on, went to 10), there was a scuffle near the LAFC bench that left Adama Diomande with a yellow card. Niko Hamalainen never got subbed in.
Finally, the ref blew his whistle three times and the match was over. A 3-2 win that gave the Black and Gold 3 points going into the three week MLS break.
